Welcome to the Alliance for Language Learning and Educational Exchange
(ALLEX) eMagazine. The eMagazine is published monthly to keep our
students, professors, institutions, and friends up-to-date on recent ALLEX
news. Future issues will feature interviews with partnering universities,

Mason meets with Exchange:Japan Director in Detroit |

Thomas Mason, Jr., ALLEX Executive Director, met with Bill Wiitala,
former Director of Exchange:Japan, on July 23 and 24 in Detroit to
discuss ALLEX's continuation of many of the same kinds of programs
formerly offered by E:J. Among the many topics discussed was the
influence the program has on Japanese teaching in the United States:
more than 30 alumnae are currently employed in the field as
professional Japanese instructors.

Host Institution Applications Now Available |

Institutions interested in receiving a lecturer for fall 2005 should
make initial contact with ALLEX as soon as possible. Applications
will be sent to prospective host institutions on September 1, 2004.

Information Sessions for Prospective Japanese Students |
 |
ALLEX will hold information sessions for Japanese individuals
interested in the Scholarship Program in International Education.
The sessions will be held in Tokyo and Osaka in late September.
Admission to the program is highly competitive and all prospective
applicants are strongly encouraged to attend a session. Please
register online. We look forward to meeting you soon!

Exchange Japan Alumnae Encouraged to Register with ALLEX |

ALLEX is pleased to announce that it has created an alumnae association
for Exchange:Japan and ALLEX graduates. Graduates of
Exchange Japan's Educational Exchange Program are encouraged
to register with ALLEX. Tell us what you have been doing, find old
friends, and join a network of more than 450 alumnae!
