Mr.
Ueno received his degree in architecture from Waseda University, Japan’s
premier private university. After graduation he worked at one of
Japan’s most prestigious firms specializing in city planning.
Deciding to pursue a career in education, Mr. Ueno quit his lucrative job
as an architect to teach mathematics and social studies at a private high
school in central Japan. At the age of 37 he decided to return to
school once more—this time at England’s Warwick University. He took
his wife and children to England where he studied educational management
while they thrived studying music and English. Mr. Ueno returned to
Japan in 2000 where he now serves as acting principal of a private high
school north of Tokyo and is also managing member of a large educational
foundation. His hobbies include working out at the gym, tennis,
golf, and watch collecting. His wife, Michiko, is a member of the
Tochigi Prefecture Assembly. His three children, Hiroko, Asako, and
Yoko, are still studying abroad in England.
